Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine is a form of alternative medicine that has its origins in many ancient cultures.  These include those of the American Indians, Chinese and Egyptians. This practice is the medicinal use of plants to enhance general health and wellbeing and treat disease.

As with all health practices, it must be remembered that some herbs are very potent and must be treated with the same care and respect as pharmaceutical drugs. Actually, it is interesting to note that many pharmaceutical drugs are in fact based on the synthesised versions of naturally occurring compounds found in plants. One example is the heart drug digitalis which was derived from the herb foxglove.

Like many other alternative therapies, herbal medicine has been attracting much more interesting in recent years which is causing science to take a closer look at the medicinal use of plants as effective ways of treating disease. There are numerous international studies which have demonstrated that plants are capable of treating disease and improving health, often without any of the significant side effects that are caused by pharmaceutical drugs.
